About Shaq Fu (europe)
Shaq Fu arrived on the Super Nintendo in 1994, a game developed by Delphine Software International that tried to blend basketball celebrity with the fighting genre popular at the time. It was a strange release, even for an era full of experimental titles, placing a real life sports star into a completely fictional martial arts adventure.
You control Shaquille O'Neal, navigating him through side scrolling streets and other locations to rescue a boy named Nezu from a dimension called the Dark World. The gameplay shifts between exploration and one on one fighting. You walk from screen to screen, occasionally triggering fights against various opponents using a combination of punches, kicks, and special moves. The pacing can feel uneven, and the controls are often cited as being difficult to master. Playing Shaq Fu feels like an awkward, sometimes frustrating, attempt to merge two very different ideas into a single experience.
