Shanghai 2 on SNES takes the classic Mahjong solitaire formula and gives it that sweet 16-bit treatment. You’re matching pairs of ornate tiles, clearing the board piece by piece—but don’t let the chill vibes fool you. Some of these layouts get brutal once you dig into the later stages.

What’s cool is how much variety they packed in. There are 11 different tile sets, from traditional Chinese designs to these weird, almost abstract fantasy ones. I kept switching between them just to see the little details. And if you’ve got a friend around, the two-player mode turns it into this weirdly tense back-and-forth race to clear tiles first.

The real beast is Dragon’s Eye mode, though. Starts simple, then suddenly you’re staring at this swirling, symmetrical tile arrangement that makes your brain hurt in the best way. Took me three tries just to crack the intermediate difficulty. If you’ve ever lost an hour to tile-matching games, this one’s got that perfect mix of zen and frustration.
