Seven Cities of Gold: Commemorative Edition is a strategy game released for MS-DOS in 1993. The game combines historical simulation, trade, and managerial elements, casting the player in the role of a Spanish explorer during the Age of Discovery.

The player controls an explorer commissioned by the Spanish crown to voyage to the New World. Primary objectives involve claiming land, interacting with indigenous populations through negotiation or conquest, and managing resources to gain personal fame and fortune. Between expeditions, gameplay shifts to a managerial phase where the player must purchase and outfit ships, hire crew, and plan subsequent voyages. Progression is structured around these repeated cycles of preparation, exploration, and interaction, with the game offering a choice between a historically accurate map of the Americas or a randomly generated landmass.

Gameplay systems are viewed from a top-down perspective and include exploration of uncharted territories, trade and resource management, and diplomatic or military engagements with native tribes.
