I picked up a copy of Sensible Soccer for the Super Nintendo, a European release that came out in beta form with support for English, French, German, and Italian. It was developed by Sensible Software and published in the early 1990s, a time when the SNES was full of ambitious arcade and sports titles. This one stood out for its particular approach to the genre.

You control a team of small, cartoonish players from a top-down perspective, directing passes and taking shots on goal. The main objective is to outscore your opponent, but the game is built on a few key mechanics. The aftertouch system lets you bend the ball's trajectory after you kick it, adding a layer of finesse to long shots and crosses. Matches are fast, almost frantic, with an emphasis on quick, one-touch passing to break through defenses. The difficulty is sharp; you have to be precise with your tackles and anticipate the ball's physics. It feels immediate and responsive, a game where a single, well-placed through ball can change everything.
