About Secret Of Mana
Secret of Mana came out for the Super Nintendo in 1993, developed by Square. It was part of that wave of ambitious action RPGs that tried to do something different on the console, moving away from purely turn based battles.
You control a young boy who pulls a rusty sword from a stone, an act that unleashes monsters and sends him on a journey to restore the power of the Mana Tree. You explore the world screen by screen, fighting enemies in real time with a charging attack system for your sword, spear, or bow. You can have two AI controlled companions with you, a girl and a sprite, and you navigate through forests, towns, and multi level dungeons to find the eight Mana Seeds. The pacing is generally steady, though some later areas can feel long and the enemy AI is not always predictable. Playing it feels like being part of a compact, colorful story where your actions directly shape the world.
