Players control a single warrior, with the primary objective being to defeat opponents in a series of matches. The game offers both a standard versus mode and a story mode that loosely follows events from the late Han Dynasty, where the land falls into chaos under Cao Cao's control. The narrative framework involves the player's chosen fighter attempting to challenge Cao Cao's forces to restore order. Progression is structured through consecutive battles, leading to a final confrontation.

Gameplay utilizes two main attack buttons for punch and kick, providing a basic set of normal moves. Movement includes jumping and blocking, which function similarly to traditional 2D fighters. Special attacks, such as energy projectiles and unique strikes, are performed by inputting directional commands combined with an attack button. A special meter beneath the health bar fills during combat, particularly when blocking or moving away from the opponent. As this meter increases, it enhances the power and effects of special moves, such as enlarging projectile size.
