About Rushing Beat (japan)
Rushing Beat came out for the Super Nintendo in 1992, developed and published by Jaleco. It was part of a wave of side scrolling beat 'em ups on the system, a genre that was pretty crowded at the time. This one was the third game in its series, though it was the first to be released outside of Japan under a different name.
You control one of three characters, Rick, Ray, or Mary, moving from left to right through city streets and industrial areas. The main goal is to punch and kick your way through endless waves of thugs to rescue a kidnapped woman. A signature mechanic is the ability to pick up weapons like pipes and knives dropped by enemies, which makes a big difference in a fight. You can also perform a desperation attack when your health is low, clearing the screen of everyone nearby. The pacing is fast and the difficulty can be punishing, especially when you get surrounded. It feels like a straightforward, sometimes brutal test of your ability to manage a crowd with your fists.
