About Ronaldinho Soccer 98
Ronaldinho Soccer 98 came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1998, published by Tec Toy. It was one of the later soccer games on the SNES, arriving when the console's lifecycle was winding down. You got to play with official Brazilian clubs and the national team, which was a nice touch if you followed that scene.
You control a team of soccer players, moving them around the field to pass and shoot the ball. The main goal is to outscore your opponent within the match time. A couple of things stand out: the through-pass mechanic, which lets you send the ball ahead into open space, and the ability to perform different types of shots, like low drives or lofted chips, depending on how you press the buttons. The game moves at a fairly quick pace, and while it is not brutally difficult, it does require you to time your tackles and anticipate passes. It feels responsive and straightforward, a solid pick for a casual match.
