About Romancing Sa-ga (japan)
Romancing Sa-Ga came out for the Super Nintendo in 1992, developed by Square. It was part of that wave of ambitious Japanese RPGs that really pushed what the SNES could do, with a big world and a lot of systems to figure out.
You choose one of eight main characters and then just set out into the world. There isn't a single plot you have to follow; instead, you explore the map screen by screen, triggering events and building your own story as you go. Combat is turn-based, and your weapons and magic can randomly improve during fights, which makes every battle a little unpredictable. Your main goal is to gather allies and grow strong enough to challenge the villain, but the game doesn't hold your hand, so the pacing is entirely up to you. It feels like a genuine adventure where your choices actually build the world around you.
