Romance of the Three Kingdoms III on SNES is one of those deep, slow-burn strategy games where you spend half your time staring at menus and the other half scheming how to take over ancient China. You pick a warlord—Cao Cao, Liu Bei, or some lesser-known guy if you're feeling spicy—and start with a single crummy province. From there, it's all about recruiting generals, managing food supplies, and deciding whether to stab your allies in the back now or later.

The battles are simple on the surface (move units, clash, repeat), but terrain and officer stats actually matter way more than you'd think at first. I lost my first playthrough because I kept throwing my best guys into mountains where they got wrecked by ambushes. Classic Koei—easy to jump into, brutal to master. If you like historical flavor with your conquest sims, this one's got personality for days.

Just don't expect flashy graphics. The charm's in the little details, like watching your useless nephew-in-law botch every diplomatic mission while your rival's army mysteriously gets stronger every turn.
