I remember picking up Roger Clemens' MVP Baseball for the Super Nintendo back in 1991. It was developed by Sculptured Software, and it was one of the many sports titles trying to carve out a space on the new 16-bit system. At the time, baseball games were a staple, and this one entered the field alongside other early SNES releases, offering a straightforward take on the sport without a lot of the flash that would come later.

You control the pitcher and batter during their respective turns, aiming to outscore the opposing team over nine innings. The pitching interface lets you select different types of throws, like fastballs and curves, and you need to time your meter for accuracy. When you're at bat, you have to watch the pitch carefully and swing with a button press, trying to make solid contact for a hit. The game moves at a deliberate pace, and the computer opponents can be challenging, especially on higher difficulty settings where getting a hit feels like a real accomplishment. Fielding is mostly automatic, letting you focus on the core duel between the pitcher and the hitter. Playing it feels like a focused, sometimes tense, game of baseball where every pitch matters.
