Rocko's Modern Life came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1994, published by Viacom New Media. It was part of that wave of licensed games based on popular cartoons, a familiar sight on the SNES. You step into the shoes of Rocko, the wallaby from the Nickelodeon show, in a side-scrolling adventure.

You control Rocko, and your main goal is to guide your dog Spunky safely through three distinct stages: Rock-O-Whey Beach, the Hill-O-Stench garbage dump, and Laundryland. The core of the game revolves around protecting Spunky; you toss him up to higher, safer platforms, move objects like barrels to cushion his falls, and fend off various enemies that want to harm him. There is no time limit, which lets you figure out the environmental puzzles at your own pace, but you have a limited number of lives and must carefully manage Spunky's health bar, while Rocko himself cannot be hurt. Navigating the levels screen by screen and interacting with characters like Hefer and Filburt creates a methodical, sometimes tricky experience. It feels like a careful, deliberate escort mission from start to finish.
