The Rocketeer on the Super Nintendo came out in 1991, a time when movie licenses were a common sight on the system. It was developed by IGS, or Information Global Service, and it put you right into the world of the film. This was just another one of those action games based on a property that tried to capture the adventure on a cartridge.

You control Cliff Secord, the pilot who becomes the Rocketeer. Your main goal is to stop the Nazis from getting their hands on your advanced jetpack technology. The core of the game is side-scrolling action; you run, jump, and use your jetpack to fly through levels. You have a limited amount of fuel for the jetpack, so you have to manage your bursts of flight carefully to avoid enemies and navigate tricky platforming sections. Occasionally, the perspective shifts to an auto-scrolling shooting stage where you fly freely and shoot down enemy aircraft. The game moves at a decent clip, but the difficulty can be unforgiving, especially with the precision needed for some of the platforming. It feels like a straightforward challenge from that era, where you have to learn the levels through repetition.
