About Rival Turf
Rival Turf came out for the Super Nintendo in 1992, developed by Jaleco. It was one of many side scrolling beat 'em ups on the system during that period, a genre that was pretty crowded at the time. You could easily find it on a rental shelf next to titles like Final Fight.
You control one of two cops, Jack or Rush, cleaning up the streets. Your goal is to fight through waves of punks and thugs across different city locations, screen by screen, to rescue Jack's girlfriend from a gang. The main actions are punching, kicking, and using a special attack that drains a bit of your health. You can also perform a basic grappling move to throw enemies. The pacing is fast, and the game can get difficult quickly, especially when you are surrounded. It feels like a straightforward, sometimes punishing, brawl from start to finish.
