Relief Pitcher came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1992, developed by Atari Games. It was part of that wave of early 90s sports titles trying to capture the feel of the arcade on a home console. You don't see many baseball games built entirely around the pitcher and catcher anymore, which made it stand out even then.

You control the pitcher and, during fielding sequences, the catcher. The main goal is to get through each inning without letting the other team score, managing your pitcher's stamina and mixing up your throws. Signature mechanics include selecting different pitch types, each with its own movement and speed, and a timing-based meter for your throw's accuracy. When a ball is hit into play, the perspective shifts, and you take direct control of the catcher to field bunts or make throws to bases. The game moves quickly, and the difficulty comes from reading the batter's tendencies and placing your pitches carefully. It feels tense and focused, like a strategic duel on the mound.
