About Ranma Nibunnoichi
Ranma Nibunnoichi came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993, developed by Atelier Double. It was part of that wave of games based on popular anime, and it landed right in the middle of the SNES library's life, a time when developers were really starting to push what the system could do visually. You don't hear about it as often as some other titles from that year, but it has its own particular feel.
You control Ranma Saotome, and the main goal is to fight your way through a series of themed stages, like a Chinese restaurant or a cursed spring, to defeat your rivals. The core of the game is its one-on-one fighting mechanics, but it mixes in light platforming and exploration between battles. A signature feature is Ranma's curse; splashing him with cold water transforms him into a girl, which sometimes changes his move set or is required to solve an environmental puzzle. The pacing is brisk, moving you from small exploration segments directly into fights, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly on certain bosses. Playing it feels like a quick, chaotic brawl where you're always ready for the next surprise encounter.
