Ranma Nibunnoichi: Chougi Ranbu Hen came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1992, developed by Atelier Double. It was part of that wave of games based on popular anime, arriving when the SNES library was filling with all kinds of side-scrolling action. You don't need to know the show to pick it up, but it definitely fits right into that early 90s beat-em-up style.

You control Ranma Saotome, and your goal is to fight through a series of themed stages, like a Chinese restaurant or a cursed spring area, to ultimately face off against your rival Ryoga. The main action is moving from left to right, punching and kicking waves of generic thugs and other martial artists. A key mechanic is the ability to switch between Ranma's male and female forms with a button press; each form has slightly different moves and properties, which you use to solve simple environmental puzzles or gain an advantage in combat. You also collect power-ups to strengthen your special attacks, which are essential for dealing with the game's aggressive bosses. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty can spike quickly, especially during boss encounters that demand quick reflexes. It feels like a straightforward, energetic brawler where your main focus is just getting to the end of the stage and surviving the next big fight.
