Radical Rex is one of those weird, early '90s SNES platformers that somehow makes a skateboarding dinosaur feel totally natural. You jump, tail-whip enemies, and grind lava pits like it's just another day in the Mesozoic era. The first level throws you right into it—Rex ollies over pterodactyls, kicks exploding coconuts at cavemen, and yeah, there's a volcano erupting in the background because of course there is.
The controls take a second to click—his jumps are floaty, and the hitboxes aren't always forgiving—but once you get the rhythm, chaining moves together feels surprisingly smooth. The pixel art holds up, too, especially the way Rex's bandana flaps in the wind when he's mid-air. Just don't expect a deep story here. It's pure, dumb fun with a killer soundtrack that sounds like someone fed a metal album through a surf rock filter.
If you're into weird retro platformers with attitude, this one's a trip. Just watch out for the lava pits—they're everywhere.
