About Rpm Racing
RPM Racing came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1991, developed by Blizzard Entertainment before they became known for their later hits. It was part of that early wave of SNES titles, a time when developers were still figuring out what the new hardware could do for different genres, including racing games.
You control a top down car, navigating it through a series of interconnected tracks that form a large, open map. The main goal is to win races against computer opponents across different circuits. Two key mechanics define the game: you can drive anywhere on the map, off the official tracks and through cities, and you earn money from winning races to upgrade your car's engine, tires, and other parts. The game moves at a deliberate pace, and the physics make controlling your car on rough terrain a constant challenge. It feels like a rough but ambitious experiment in open world driving.
