Okay, so Power Piggs of the Dark Age is one of those weirdly charming SNES platformers that somehow makes armored pig knights feel totally normal. You pick between three pig heroes—I always went with the knight because, come on, he’s got a sword—and then you’re off bouncing on mushrooms, dodging evil turnips (yes, really), and collecting golden piggy banks like some kind of porcine treasure hunter.
The levels are bright and cartoony, but don’t let that fool you—some of those jumps are brutal. There’s this one ice stage where I swear the pigs slide like they’re on butter, and the boss fights? Way more intense than you’d expect from a game where the main villain is a giant angry radish. The music’s got that classic SNES bouncy vibe, too—catchy in a way that’ll stick in your head longer than it probably should.
It’s not the deepest game out there, but there’s something weirdly satisfying about whacking enemies with a pig’s shield or finding hidden warp zones behind suspiciously placed bushes. If you’re into retro platformers with a side of absurdity, this one’s a solid time. Just be ready to yell at your TV when you miss a jump for the tenth time.
