Power Lode Runner came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1999, published by Nintendo. You control a small character who must collect all the gold pieces on each single screen stage while avoiding enemy guards. Your primary tool is a laser drill that can temporarily dig holes directly to your left and right. You use these holes to trap enemies, create new paths, or block off pursuers, but the holes refill after a short time. The main objective is simply to grab all the gold and reach the exit ladder, but the level layouts quickly become complex mazes. The pacing is methodical; you often stop to plan your next three or four moves because a single mistake can mean getting caught. It feels like solving a tense, interactive logic puzzle where every action has an immediate consequence.
