Power Instinct on SNES is one of those weird, charming fighting games that never took itself too seriously. You’ve got a roster of fighters that includes everything from a sumo wrestler to a grandma who fights with her purse—yeah, it’s that kind of game. The controls are simple enough to mash buttons and have fun, but there’s some depth if you dig into the special moves.
Matches are fast and chaotic, with exaggerated animations and goofy sound effects that make every hit feel over-the-top. I remember picking Otane (the old lady) first just for the absurdity of her beating up ninjas. The stages have this retro arcade vibe, and the announcer’s voice is hilariously dramatic.
It’s not as polished as Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat, but that’s part of its charm. If you’re into 90s fighters with personality, this one’s a blast to mess around with. Just don’t expect to take it seriously when one of your opponents is a literal clown.
