About Populous (europe)
I first played Populous on the Super Nintendo in 1991, a Bullfrog Productions game that felt different from other titles on the system. It was a strategy game where you weren't a hero or a soldier, but a god looking down on a world from above.
You control the landscape itself, raising and lowering terrain to guide your followers as they build villages. Your main goal is to help your people multiply and then send them to destroy the rival god's settlements. You don't command units directly; instead, you influence the world by causing floods, earthquakes, or other divine acts to shape the battlefield. The game moves slowly, requiring patience as you wait for your population to grow strong enough for an assault. It feels like a puzzle where you are constantly balancing creation and destruction.
