About Popeye - Ijiwaru Majo Sea Hag No Maki
I picked up Popeye: Ijiwaru Majo Sea Hag No Maki for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System back in 1994. It was developed and published by Sigma Enterprises, a company that released a few titles during that mid-90s era of the SNES. This was a time when licensed games based on cartoons were common, and this one slipped in among the platformers and action titles without much fanfare.
You control Popeye, moving screen by screen through side-scrolling levels. Your main goal is to rescue Olive Oyl from the Sea Hag, which involves navigating through themed stages like a forest and a cave. You punch enemies, such as Bluto and various sea creatures, and you collect spinach cans scattered around the levels. Eating spinach temporarily makes you invincible and allows you to defeat enemies with a single punch.
