Pokémon TRE—Team Rocket Edition is one of those wild ROM hacks where you actually play as Team Rocket instead of some kid trying to be the very best. Right from the start, you're stealing Pokémon, roughing up trainers for cash, and generally being a menace—which honestly feels weirdly refreshing after years of playing the hero.

The game keeps the classic Gen 2 vibe but flips everything on its head. Your starter choices are... let's just say unconventional (Zubat or Koffing, anyone?), and the dialogue has this snarky, criminal edge that makes you chuckle. The map’s mostly the same, but suddenly all those shady alleys and locked doors in Goldenrod City make way more sense when you're the one causing trouble.

It’s janky in places—some of the mission triggers are finicky, and don’t expect polished writing—but if you’ve ever wanted to see Johto from the other side, this is your chance. Just don’t get too attached to your stolen Pokémon when the cops show up.
