Pokemon Revolution is a Game Boy ROM hack that reworks the original Pokemon Red. It was released in 2020 by a developer known as Buffel Saft. This project arrived long after the Game Boy's commercial life, created for players who already knew the Kanto region well and wanted a different kind of challenge.

You control a Pokemon trainer on a grid-based map, moving screen by screen to explore towns, routes, and caves. Your main goal is still to collect eight gym badges and defeat the Elite Four, but the game changes how you build your team. Wild Pokemon encounters are entirely removed; you receive your party through in-game trades and scripted events, which forces you to use Pokemon you might normally ignore. The difficulty is significantly higher, with gym leaders and rival battles requiring careful strategy and type matching. Navigating the world with this restricted, pre-determined team makes the familiar journey feel fresh and deliberate.
