Pokémon Land is one of those weird, janky ROM hacks that somehow ends up being way more fun than it has any right to be. It’s basically a stripped-down, almost bootleg version of Pokémon—like someone took Red/Blue and ran it through a fever dream. The sprites are glitchy, the dialogue is broken in places, and half the time you’re not sure if a move will actually work. But that’s kinda the charm?

You still wander through tall grass, battle trainers, and try to fill out your team, except everything feels slightly off. Some Pokémon have bizarre stats, and the map loops in ways that make no sense. I got stuck for 20 minutes because a hidden path was just… missing. If you’re into weird retro hacks with personality (and a tolerance for nonsense), this one’s a trip. Just don’t expect it to play fair.
