I first played Pokemon Blue on the Game Boy in 1996, a game developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo. It was one of those titles that defined the handheld experience, a world you could carry in your pocket. The enhanced version I played later kept the original's core but smoothed out some of the technical edges.

You control a young trainer leaving their hometown to journey across the region. Your main goal is to become the Pokemon League Champion by defeating the eight Gym Leaders and the final Elite Four. The gameplay revolves heavily around exploration, moving screen by screen through tall grass and caves to find and battle wild Pokemon. A central mechanic is catching these creatures with Poke Balls to build your team; you manage their types, learnsets, and evolution paths to gain an advantage. The other key activity is battling other trainers you meet on the routes, testing your strategy in turn based fights. The pacing is steady, with the difficulty ramping up noticeably as you approach each new town and its Gym. It feels like building a personal collection of partners and seeing them grow stronger through your choices.
