About Pokemon 151 (red Hack)
Pokemon 151 is a modified version of the original Pokemon Red for the Game Boy, released unofficially in the late 1990s or early 2000s. It was created by fans, not Nintendo or Game Freak, and it exists within that era of early internet ROM hacking when players started redistributing their own custom adventures. This hack emerged when the Game Boy was still the primary handheld, and players were eager for new ways to experience the Kanto region.
You control a young trainer on a quest to catch all 151 Pokemon, including Mew, without the need for special events or glitches. The core gameplay involves exploring tall grass, caves, and cities; battling other trainers to gain experience; and managing your team's moves and types. Signature mechanics include the ability to encounter every Pokemon in the wild through normal play, a reworked progression that sometimes alters gym leader teams, and the preservation of the original turn based battle system. The pacing can feel brisk if you know where to go, but the expanded encounter tables add a fresh layer of hunting. It feels like revisiting a familiar map and discovering new secrets in every patch of grass.
