Planet's Champ Tg 3000, The (japan) Game

Planet's Champ TG 3000 is one of those weird, obscure SNES games that never made it outside Japan—which is a shame, because it’s actually a blast. You play as this futuristic boxer (or maybe a robot? The manual’s in Japanese, so I’m not entirely sure) punching your way through bizarre alien opponents in a tournament. The sprites are chunky and colorful, and the controls are simple but satisfying once you get the timing down.
First match in, you’re thrown against some squid-looking thing with way too many arms, and the game doesn’t hold back. The AI’s aggressive, so you’ve gotta figure out dodges and counters fast. There’s a weird charm to how over-the-top the fighters are—one’s basically a sentient pile of sludge, another looks like a walking disco ball. No idea what the story’s about, but honestly, it doesn’t matter. Just hit things until they explode.
If you’re into retro fighting games with personality, this one’s a hidden gem. The music’s got that classic SNES synth energy too.
