Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1994, published by Activision. It was part of that wave of 16-bit games that took familiar characters and gave them a visual overhaul, moving from the blocky sprites of the past to more detailed, animated worlds. This one was a successor to the original Pitfall, but built for the capabilities of the SNES.

You control Pitfall Harry Jr., searching for his missing father through jungles and ancient ruins. Your main goal is to navigate the levels, which often scroll screen by screen, while avoiding traps and fighting enemies. You have a few key tools: you can swing across gaps with a vine, use a boomerang for ranged attacks, and find a slingshot for hitting distant targets. The game mixes exploration with action; some areas require careful timing to jump over spikes or dodge rolling boulders. The pacing is generally quick, though some sections can be difficult due to precise platforming demands. It feels like a constant test of your reflexes and memory as you learn the patterns of each new screen.
