About Pikiinya! (japan)
Pikiinya! was a Japan only release for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, arriving late in the console's life. It was developed by a company called Pandora Box, which gives you an idea of the kind of quirky, experimental title it is, a product of that era when developers were pushing the hardware in new directions.
You control a small, round creature named Pikiin, navigating a series of single screen rooms. The main goal is to collect a certain number of keys in each stage to unlock the exit. Your primary tool is a lasso you can swing to grab onto hooks and swing across gaps; momentum is everything. You also use the lasso to collect items and fend off enemies by whipping them. The pacing is deliberate, requiring careful timing and swing calculations, and the difficulty can be unforgiving if you misjudge a jump. Playing it feels like solving a compact physics puzzle with each new screen.
