I picked up Pikiinya! for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System a while back. It came out in 1997 from ASCII Corporation, which was pretty late in the SNES's life. It's one of those games that feels like a product of its time, a solid action-adventure title that doesn't try to reinvent the wheel but offers a specific kind of challenge.

You control a small, round character exploring a large, interconnected world screen by screen. The main goal is to navigate through dungeons, defeat monsters, and collect pieces of a powerful artifact. Your primary actions involve using a sword for close combat and a bow for hitting distant switches or enemies. The game is methodical; you often have to backtrack to use a newly acquired item to unlock a previously inaccessible path. The difficulty is consistent, demanding careful observation of enemy patterns and environmental puzzles. It feels satisfying to slowly map out the world and overcome its obstacles through persistence.
