Phalanx - The Enforce Fighter A-144 is one of those SNES shooters that looks weird at first glance—like, why is there a dude with a banjo on the cover of a spaceship game? But once you fire it up, it’s pure 90s arcade-style chaos. You’re piloting this beefy fighter ship through waves of enemies, dodging bullet patterns that start simple but get absolutely brutal later. The power-up system’s kinda neat—you collect these floating orbs that let you switch between different weapon loadouts mid-fight. I kept dying at first because I’d forget to swap from spread shots to lasers when bosses showed up.
It’s got that classic Japanese shooter vibe with chunky pixel explosions and a soundtrack that goes way harder than it needs to. Not the most polished SNES title out there, but if you’re into retro shmups, it’s a solid time waster. Just don’t judge it by the banjo guy.
