About Pebble Beach Golf Links
I remember playing Pebble Beach Golf Links on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System back in 1992. It was developed by T&E Soft, a company that put out a few golf titles during that era. On a console filled with platformers and RPGs, this was one of the more straightforward sports simulations you could find, offering a digital version of a famous real world course.
You control a golfer from an overhead view, selecting clubs and aiming your shots across eighteen holes. The main goal is simple: finish each hole in as few strokes as possible. The game uses a three click swing meter for power and accuracy, a mechanic that requires precise timing to hit the ball straight. You also need to account for wind direction and the lie of the ball on the fairway or in the rough. The pacing is deliberate, and the game can be quite challenging if your timing is off. It feels like a thoughtful, sometimes frustrating, test of your patience and skill.
