Pac-Attack came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993, a Namco release that landed right in the middle of the console's busy life. It was a time when familiar arcade characters were getting new puzzle spins on home systems, and this one took Pac-Man in a different direction. Instead of the usual maze, it dropped him into a falling block puzzle, which felt fresh at the time.

You control Pac-Man at the bottom of the screen, guiding him left and right as colored blocks and ghosts tumble down from above. Your main job is to clear the screen by making complete horizontal lines, just like in Tetris, but with a Pac-Man twist. The key mechanics involve Pac-Man eating ghosts that are sandwiched between blocks; he can only munch them if they are exposed on one side. You also get a helpful power-up, a bomb that clears entire rows when things get too crowded. The game starts calmly but the blocks fall faster and faster, pushing you to think and move quickly to prevent a pile-up. It feels like a race against a rising tide of colorful shapes and spooky faces.
