PGA Tour 96 on SNES is one of those golf games that just feels right—no overly complicated mechanics, just solid arcade-style golf with just enough realism to make you sweat over long putts. You pick your pro (I always went with Fred Couples), choose from a handful of iconic courses, and suddenly you're squinting at pixelated greens like they're the real thing.
The swing meter is simple but punishing—mess up your timing, and that ball is heading straight into the rough. Wind actually matters here, which I didn’t expect from a 16-bit golf game. And the commentary? Cheesy in the best way. Nothing like hearing "Nice shot!" after you completely botch a drive.
It’s not as flashy as modern golf sims, but there’s something satisfying about the straightforward gameplay. You’ll either love it or rage-quit after the third sand trap in a row. Either way, it’s a solid time capsule of mid-90s sports games.
