Outlander on SNES is one of those weird, ambitious '90s action games that throws you into a time-hopping mess of sword fights, car chases, and post-apocalyptic wastelands—all in 16-bit glory. You start off in a Mad Max-style desert, blasting raiders with a shotgun, and next thing you know, you're swordfighting knights in medieval Europe. The transitions are jarring in the best way.
It's got this odd mix of driving sections (where your car handles like a shopping cart on ice) and side-scrolling combat that somehow works. The first time I played, I got stuck for ages on a puzzle involving a time portal and a suspiciously placed barrel—turns out you just had to blow it up. Classic SNES logic.
Not gonna lie, the controls take some getting used to, and the difficulty spikes are brutal, but there's something weirdly charming about its janky ambition. If you dig obscure retro games that don't play it safe, this one's a trip.
