Olympic Summer Games 96 on SNES is one of those classic sports games where you’ll either destroy your controller or your friendships—maybe both. The pixelated athletes look hilariously stiff, but don’t let that fool you—the events get intense fast. One minute you’re mashing buttons to sprint, the next you’re timing jumps in the long pit like your life depends on it.
Multiplayer is where it really shines. Nothing beats the chaos of four people hammering the A button during swimming, only for someone to accidentally elbow their way to gold. The gymnastics events feel a little janky, but once you figure out the timing, pulling off a perfect vault is weirdly satisfying.
It’s not the deepest sports sim, but for quick, chaotic couch competition, it still holds up. Just make sure you’ve got spare controllers.
