Nobunaga's Ambition on SNES is one of those games that looks simple at first—just a map of Japan and some menus—but give it 10 minutes, and suddenly you're deep in feudal politics, trying not to get stabbed in the back by your own generals. You pick a clan (I always go with Oda Nobunaga himself because, well, it's his ambition), and then it's all about managing taxes, sending ninjas to sabotage rivals, and praying your rice harvest doesn't fail before winter.
The diplomacy system is brutal—ally with someone today, and they'll betray you the second your army looks weak. Battles are chess-like, with terrain and troop types mattering way more than raw numbers. And yeah, it's historically accurate to the point where you might accidentally learn something about 16th-century Japan between crushing rebellions.
It's not for everyone—the menus are dense, and there's no hand-holding—but if you like strategy games where every decision has weight, this one sticks with you. Just don't blame me when you lose three hours trying to unite a single province.
