I picked up Nekketsu Tairiku Burning Heroes back when it was new in 1995 for the Super Nintendo. It was a Jaleco release, one of those many action RPGs that tried to carve out its own space on the console. The game arrived in an era when developers were really pushing what the SNES could do with its color palette and mode 7 effects, and this one definitely had its own visual style.

You control a party of three heroes, switching between them on the fly to use their unique abilities. Your main goal is to explore a fantasy continent, screen by screen, clearing out monsters and delving into dungeons to recover the scattered pieces of a powerful artifact. The combat is straightforward; you use swords and bows in real time, and a key mechanic is managing your party's health and special skills, which drain a separate meter. The pacing can feel deliberate, even a bit slow, as you methodically clear areas and manage your resources against enemies that can whittle you down if you are not careful. It feels like a methodical, sometimes grindy adventure where your patience is regularly tested.
