Mother 2 (or EarthBound, if you're outside Japan) is one of those SNES RPGs that sticks with you—not because of flashy graphics, but because it’s just so weirdly charming. You play as Ness, a kid with a baseball bat and psychic powers, and your adventure starts with… a meteor crash? Then it spirals into fighting sentient piles of vomit, cultists in caves, and a whole lot of random encounters with enemies like "Annoying Old Party Man."
The combat’s turn-based, but with a twist—your HP rolls down like a slot machine when you take damage, so you can still act if you’re fast enough. And the music? Absolute earworms, from the twangy guitar in Onett to the eerie Moonside theme. It’s got this offbeat humor too—imagine healing at a burger joint or calling your dad to save your progress.
Yeah, it’s dated in places (good luck with that inventory system), but the writing and sheer personality make up for it. If you’ve ever wanted an RPG where you fight a walking stop sign or get homesick and cry in the middle of a dungeon, this is your game.
