About Mortal Kombat Ii (europe) (rev A)
Mortal Kombat II came out for the Super Nintendo in 1994, developed by Midway. It was a big deal on the system, a time when home versions of arcade fighters were becoming more common and pushing the hardware.
You pick a fighter like Sub-Zero or Scorpion and battle through a series of one-on-one matches. The main goal is to win the tournament by defeating all the other combatants, including secret characters and bosses. The fighting relies on a mix of basic attacks and special moves, like throwing a spear or shooting an ice blast. Two key mechanics are the Fatalities, which are complex button sequences to finish off a defeated opponent in a gruesome way, and the addition of Babalities and Friendships as alternate endings. The game moves quickly and the difficulty ramps up sharply, especially against the computer-controlled opponents later on. Landing a well-timed combo or finally pulling off a Fatality you practiced for hours feels deeply satisfying.
