About Monstania (japan)
Monstania came out in 1996 for the Super Nintendo, developed by Pack-In-Video. It was one of those late-era SNES games that arrived when many players were already looking at newer systems, a solid strategy title that didn't get a lot of attention outside Japan.
You control a young hero named Pudding on a grid-based map, navigating screen by screen to reclaim stolen medals from a villain. The core of the game is its unique combat; you don't fight monsters directly. Instead, you push them into each other, and they attack one another. You also set traps and use items to manipulate enemy movement, turning their own strength against them. The pacing is deliberate, requiring you to think a few steps ahead on every single screen. It feels like solving a series of compact, tactical puzzles where a single wrong push can force a restart.
