Mickey's Ultimate Challenge on SNES is one of those weird little gems from the '90s that somehow blends puzzles, mini-games, and light platforming into a Disney-themed adventure. You start off in Mickey’s house, picking between him, Minnie, or Donald—each with slightly different abilities, though Mickey’s probably the easiest for first-timers.
The whole thing feels like a mix of a board game and a point-and-click, with these oddball challenges like memory matching, sliding puzzles, and even a weirdly intense minecart section. The art’s bright and cartoony, exactly what you’d expect from a Disney game of the era, though some of the puzzles can be frustratingly vague (good luck figuring out that magic cauldron sequence without trial and error).
It’s not the deepest game, but there’s charm in its randomness—like how you’ll suddenly be playing a game of checkers against Pete or hopping across floating books in a library. If you’re into retro Disney stuff, it’s a fun curiosity, just don’t expect a masterpiece.
