Mega Mario was a Super Nintendo Entertainment System release from Nintendo. It arrived during a time when the platform was full of side scrolling action games, each trying to carve out its own identity with new power ups and level designs.

You control Mario, running and jumping through a series of themed worlds. The main goal is to reach the end of each stage, defeating enemies and avoiding bottomless pits. The game introduced a screen by screen exploration structure, where you could sometimes choose your path on an overworld map. Signature mechanics include collecting coins to earn extra lives and using a new mega mushroom power up that temporarily makes Mario enormous, allowing him to smash through brick walls and enemies that are normally invincible. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty can be sharp, especially in later worlds with more complex platforming sequences. It feels satisfying to finally master a tricky jump and see your route open up on the map.
