MechWarrior came out for the Super Nintendo in 1993, developed by Beam Software and published by Activision. It was part of that wave of games trying to bring complex PC simulations to a console, a pretty ambitious goal for the 16-bit era. You didn't see many mech sims on the SNES, so it always stood out for attempting something different.

In the game, you pilot a massive BattleMech, a walking tank with an arsenal of weapons. Your main job is to take on mercenary contracts, which involve missions like destroying enemy bases or defending allied positions. You manage your mech's heat levels carefully; firing too many weapons at once causes you to overheat and shut down temporarily. Between missions, you visit a star map to travel and a mech lab to repair damage and swap out weapons and armor. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty is unforgiving; a few bad hits can cripple your mech and end a mission. It feels like a constant, tense balancing act between firepower and survival.
