About Maui Mallard In Cold Shadow
Maui Mallard in Cold Shadow came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1996, a Disney Interactive Studios release. It was part of that late SNES era where developers were really pushing the hardware, creating detailed worlds with a lot of character. You play as Donald Duck, but he's a private investigator on a tropical island, which is a fun twist for the character.
You control Donald, running and jumping through levels screen by screen, fighting off enemies with a simple boomerang throw. The main goal is to solve the mystery of a stolen idol, which involves exploring temples and villages. A key mechanic is that Donald can transform into a ninja called Cold Shadow, swapping his boomerang for a shuriken and gaining a short-range sword slash. You collect coins to buy extra lives and health, and the game can get quite difficult, with some tricky platforming sections. It feels like a solid action platformer with a unique style.
