Maten Densetsu - Senritsu no Ooparts is one of those weird, obscure SNES JRPGs that never left Japan—which is a shame, because it’s got this eerie, almost horror-tinged vibe mixed with classic fantasy. You start off in this foggy village where people keep vanishing, and before long, you’re digging into ancient relics (the "Ooparts") that might be tied to some seriously creepy stuff.

The combat’s turn-based but with a twist—your party’s formations actually matter, and positioning can make or break a fight. I remember getting wrecked by some early enemies before realizing I couldn’t just brute-force my way through. The soundtrack’s all moody synths and dissonant chimes, which fits perfectly when you’re exploring ruins that feel straight out of a ghost story.

It’s not perfect—the pacing drags in spots, and the translation patches floating around are… rough. But if you’re into offbeat ‘90s JRPGs with a dark edge, this one’s worth digging up.
