Master of Magic is a turn based strategy game released in 1994 for MS DOS. Developed by SimTex and published by MicroProse Software, it is a fantasy themed 4X title where players assume the role of a wizard competing for dominance across two distinct worlds: a conventional plane and a magical realm known as Myrror.

The player controls a wizard and their growing empire, with the primary objective being to achieve supremacy by either eliminating all rival wizards or successfully casting a powerful end game Spell of Mastery. Gameplay involves managing cities, which function similarly to systems found in civilization building games, where structures are built and armies are recruited. Players explore a top down map, moving armies to engage monsters, claim treasure, and secure magical sites called nodes, which provide essential mana resources when controlled.

Progression is driven by strategic decisions in both empire management and magical development. Mana must be allocated between immediate spellcasting and long term research to unlock new abilities. Combat can be resolved through direct control in a separate tactical view or automatically simulated. The game concludes when a player's central fortress is destroyed, all opposing wizards are banished by destroying their fortresses, or the Spell of Mastery is completed by any wizard.
